Welcome to Traill County, North Dakota! Organized in 1875, the county of Traill in eastern North Dakota boasts several small communities with exceptional businesses, tourist adventures and cultural history.

With a population of just over 8,100, Traill County is on the grow! With young families, great housing opportunities and first rate educational and health facilities, our communities have something for everyone.

The county seat is Hillsboro, and the largest city is Mayville.

IMPORTANT NOTICE FOR THE NOV. 3, 2020 GENERAL ELECTION

Ballots will be ready for you on Sept. 24, 2020.

Traill County has been a vote-by-mail county since 2008. You can trust the U.S. Postal Service with your election ballot. If you wait too long, you may run out of mailing days resulting in the Auditor’s office not receiving your ballot on or before canvassing day.

VOTE – VOTE EARLY - MAIL EARLY - DROP OFF EARLY

BALLOTS SENT TO YOUR HOME: If you request a ballot be sent to your home, we ask that you vote and return it to the Auditor’s office as soon as possible either by mail or in person at the courthouse in Hillsboro. Call 701.636.4458 to request a ballot.

VOTE EARLY AT THE COURTHOUSE: If you would like to vote early at the courthouse, give us a call at 701.636.4458 to set up an appointment. Office hours will be Monday-Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. starting Sept. 24, 2020 and ending the day before election, Nov. 2, 2020.

ONE POLLING LOCATION OPEN: Only one polling location will be open on election day (Nov. 3). The Mayville Armory (located south of the new Subway Restaurant along Highway 200) will be available with hours of voting set at 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Please allow yourself extra time to vote as we are expecting longer lines and waiting times.

COVID-19 & ELECTION: To protect the election workers, who are giving of their time to help with the process, CDC guidelines must be followed, including that all who enter the Mayville Armory will be required to wear a mask and social distance 6 feet apart.

IDENTIFICATION NECESSARY TO VOTE: You must have a North Dakota driver’s license, North Dakota non-driver’s ID card or Tribal government-issued ID card showing your current residential address (where you live) in order to receive a ballot to vote. If you have issues with your identification, please call 701.636.4458 as soon as possible so we can help you!
